Introduction

Too many people are trying to be what they are not: "perfect."

  • It wears us down.
  • Caught up trying to impress people.
  • Maybe even deceiving ourselves about our true identity.
  • This can happen without us even being aware that it is happening.

Rather than stop and reflect, most just keep pushing forward. Hoping that things in our lives will just improve.

  • Regardless of how much effort they put in, or how dedicated a person is...
  • This plan will ultimately fail.
  • No one can be perfect.
  • No matter how hard one tries, they will only end up feeling incomplete, flawed and weak. And ultimately, like a failure.
  • You may just have a general sense that things are not right.
  • Either life is not working, or the world is broken.

Your idea of what it means to be "perfect" is sabotaging your ability to accept real life.

  • You don't have to be perfect.
  • No one is!
  • What does "perfect" even mean? Who decides what is perfect?
  • Your sense of depression and frustration with life may be caused by your harsh expectations for yourself.
  • When your standard is set so high, most of the time you will end up feeling disappointed with life.
  • You can't be at "your personal best" all of the time.
  • No one has enough energy to impress all of the people all of the time.
  • You need to check your level of expectations for yourself.
  • Striving for perfection and/or the appearance of perfection can cause many problems in your life.
  • If other people find out that you are not perfect, they will survive.
  • Life will go on. Even if you don't always get it right. Even if you make your share of mistakes.
  • Learning to accept yourself as you are can be a difficult, but important lesson you need to learn.
  • Learning to accept life as it is can also be a difficult realization.
  • Your desire to be a better person and to have a better life can actually be causing you frustration and pain.
  • Your idea of what life should be like can be ruining your reality of what life is like.
  • By changing your perspective, you can begin to change your life.
